Your Children

You hunger for Your children

Scattered like sand upon this

Wide earth

Pitted against each other like storms in the early morning

Huge marvels of nature

And yet nothing of consequence beyond this moment

You hunger for your children

Lying fast asleep upon ancient mounds

Upon books and on the backs of carthorses

And elephants

Running amok, wild,

Lost, so lost, so blind

You hunger for your children, weeping

Deep into the night

Abandoned and in pain, in terrible

Loss

Weeping for the riches heaven drops

Lavishly into their empty laps

And they do not see

You hunger for your children

And their children and their children

Catching momentary glimpses of your

Beauty

In broken smiles and gentleness

And then sinking back into their fear

You hunger for your children

With an ancient, primal, maddening hunger,

And until their hunger matches yours,

Ever shall you both wander

Searching for love in the richness

Of the night skies.
