Listen

Listen my friend

Listen

for your answers

Listen

in the silence behind

the ticking of the clock

in the rustle of the leaves

in the movement of the clouds

listen

to the song

of the universe

in the whirling of the stars

in the dark before

the sunrise

in the silent

descent

of the snowflake

and raindrop

listen to the light

shining on your

upturned face

listen

to the silent one

at the back of the noisy,

blundering,

boisterous

riot

listen to the silent one

listen to the watching moon

and the tides

bearing witness

to your ebbs and flows

listen to the tear

as it slips from your eye

to the air

beneath the wing of the

eagle

soaring gloriously

silently

listen to the breeze

in your hair

listen to the words

unspoken

the silent glance

glittering your way

listen

to the secrets of the fleeting

thought

gone before it comes

listen to the beat of

your own heart

fast or sluggish

harsh or excited

loving

or shrinking in fear

listen to its call

treat it gently

and with love

your heart is your best friend

not an enemy to dust under

the carpet and

forget

forevermore

listen to its prompt

gentle as a kiss

upon your brow

and then drop everything

and fall prostrate

to its slightest whim

listen

listen long and listen

well

your answers are not in the raucous

sticks beating the drum,

but in the pauses in

between.

  1. Oh Haneen! Such beauty and clarity in your words! Just listen. Although, I’ve always questioned whether that voice can be misleading sometimes — perhaps almost argue that maybe not everyone’s voice is essentially good or may even stray onto the wrong path. In any case, I hope for optimism and positivity in a world as dimly lit as ours.
